By Shiba Bhandari, London: Nepali journalism has been developing in recent years. With the development of digital technology, Nepali journalism has succeeded in advancing a lot in the last decade.
In 1955 BS, Nepal’s journalism, which started with Sudha Sagar Literary magazine, has progressed to a new level with the publication of Garkhapatra Daily. On 24th Baisakh 1958 BS, Rana Prime Minister Deb Samsher started the publication of Gorkhapatra.
Nepali journalism, which was caught in various hurdles and stumbles through the direct rule of the King, advanced a lot since the country became a republic. In the meantime, due to the development in technology and freedom of expression, Nepali journalism has advanced a lot.
Prakash Sigdel is a well-known name in Nepali journalism sector. Prakash has been working as a journalist for the last 18 years. Sigdel, who started television journalism from Chitwan in 2006. He has now established himself as an international journalist by reporting from more than half a dozen countries.
Prakash started journalism from Beso Television, Chitwan, Nepal and has established himself as a successful journalist by doing excellent work in national level television, Avenues TV, News 24 TV, ABC TV, Galaxy 4k TV and other local and national dailies as well as various online media. As a journalist, he has constantly written and reported to expose corruption, social disorder, black marketing and anarchy in the society, among others. The authorities were forced to act and many corrupt officials were brought to book thanks to his reporting.
When Sigdel came to Britain for one week, I travelled and reported with him in various places including London, Swindon, Birmingham and Aldreshot. While reporting with Sigdel, who participated in the telecast of the former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs, his energy and seriousness towards the subject gave me more energy. In my 10 years of journalism experience in Britain, I had never met an energetic Nepali journalist like him.
I understand Prakash as an excellent journalist in all areas of television, print, radio and online. His style of shooting from a mobile phone, editing from a mobile phone and sending it to the media immediately is praiseworthy. Prakash, who has performed excellently as a member of the working committee of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists Chitwan for two terms, is active in the social sector along with journalism. Sigdel is well aware of national and global current affairs and emphasizes that Nepali journalists should be able to report by reaching to every corner of the world to inform and make aware Nepali audience about the developments around the world that could affect them directly or indirectly.
