Indian envoy Rae says Tarai issues should be resolved thru talks

ranjit-rayKathmandu, Dec. 30: Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae has said that the political problems of Tarai should be resolved through talks and dialogue.

Receiving a memorandum submitted by Reporters’ Club Nepal in the capital city on Wednesday, Rae lauded the efforts taken by all political parties for talks but added that all should exercise flexibility.

He also said that a consensus framework has been prepared in regard to end the obstructions seen in border areas.

Arguing that normally as high as 1,700 goods-laden trucks enter Nepal in the normal condition, the Indian Ambassador said that currently 1,100 trucks have been entering Nepal from India on a daily basis. Rae said, “Existing coldness in the Nepal-India relations should be resolved through talks.”

He also expressed displeasure towards the rising anti-Indian sentiment in Nepal and added that it was not in the interest of either side. Asked about Nepal inking a deal with China to import fuel, Rae said as Nepal is a sovereign country, it is free to maintain relations with India, China or any other nation. RSS
